At the first joint workshop between the MSE Departments of NUS and Seoul National University held in June 2017 at NUS researchers from both institutions shared their recent progress on Advanced Materials marking the beginning of a deeper collaboration in Research and Education between these two leading centres of Materials Science and Engineering in Asia.
Warmly welcome Professor Bao Zhenan, who joins the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as a National University of Singapore Society (NUSS) Professor from May 2017 to Apr 2019.
Our heartiest congratulations to Prof John Wang and his team consisting of Prof Ng How Yong (CEE), A/Prof Jiang Jianwen (ChBE), A/Prof Xue Junmin (MSE), Prof Phan-Thien Nhan (ME) and Prof Ding Jun (MSE), who have been awarded a NRF CRP Grant. The CRP programme is to develop the next generation ceramic membranes with newly engineered functional gradient configuration and surface structure for high flux, antifouling property and overall much improved performance.
MSE Researchers developed flow battery technology with unprecedentedly high energy density. Led by A/P Wang Qing, PhD student Mr. Zhu Yun Guang and other team members developed a new redox flow battery system with simplified electrolyte composition and considerably enhanced energy density. This work has recently been published in JACS.
A/P Stefan Adams talked battery safety at Channel NewsAsia. A/P Adams appeared in a live interview at Primetime Asia of Channel NewsAsia on 23 Jan., and shared his expert view on Samsung's investigation results about their recent Note 7 mobile phone battery failures. The video clip of the interview can be accessed at http://video.toggle.sg/en/tv-show/news/jan-2017-primetime-asia/mon-23-jan-2017/473450
MSE Researchers developed a photoelectrochemical tandem cell employing natural photosynthetic proteins. Dr. Tan Swee Ching and his team have demonstrated an enhanced photocurrent output in the tandem cell incorporating genetically modified proteins and transparent conductive polymer in collaboration with A/P Ouyang Jianyong and UK researchers. The work has recently been published in Advanced Energy Materials.
“Congratulations to the following PhD students who received MSE Best Publication Awards 2016: Yun Guang Zhu, “Proton enhanced dynamic battery chemistry for aprotic lithium-oxygen batteries”, published in Nature Communications; Xiao Wen, “Dual-Functional N Dopants in Edges and Basal Plane of MoS2 Nanosheets Toward Efficient and Durable Hydrogen Evolution”, published in Advanced Energy Materials; and Sai Kishore Ravi, “Enhanced Output from Biohybrid Photoelectrochemical Transparent Tandem Cells Integrating Photosynthetic Proteins Genetically Modified for Expanded Solar Energy Harvesting”, published in Advanced Energy Materials”
Congratulations to those who have had excellent academic performance in AY2015/2016. They have received their book prizes on 11 Aug 2016.
