Faculty of Engineering
Department of Materials Science & Engineering
Major in Materials Science & Engineering
At the undergraduate level, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering offers a four-year engineering curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Materials Science and Engineering (MLE). This is a professional engineering programme, which prepares students for working as Materials engineer in different industries and for further study for postgraduate degrees.
This programme consists of many components – University Level Requirements, Unrestrictive Electives, Faculty Requirements and Major Requirements, in order to provide a broad education. The Faculty and Major Requirements are well balanced in science, general engineering and materials science & engineering.
A MLE graduate will have a solid science foundation, basic engineering background and sound knowledge in materials science and engineering. The Department offers two certified specializations of Polymeric and Biomedical Materials and Nanostructured Materials/nanotechnology.
Admission Requirements
For admission to the Materials Science and Engineering programme, a candidate (“A” level student) must fulfill the following requirements:
H2 pass in Mathematics, Pure, Applied or Further Mathematics
And
H2 pass in either Physics or Chemistry
For polytechnic students, please refer to the entry requirements in the Office of Admissions.
